Gaming is popular pastime for middle-class shut-ins. Computer games a core part of the culture and community of Reconstruction Era, and we play them on a regular basis. While gaming is good for bringing friends together, gaming communities have been known to produce a lot of cringe, which can be a challenge on our discord.

On Reconstruction Era, various gaming servers and events are hosted for members of the community to partake in. Members of RE have played on many Minecraft servers, including various civ servers as well as the RE survival server. Many RE members play Garry's Mod, and the community runs a DarkRP server. The RE Arma unit hosts its own operations as well. RE has a subcommunity for regularly hosting and playing strategy games. RE plays RTS games such as Stronghold 2, Company of Heroes, R.U.S.E., and Wargame. They also play map games, including titles like Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universals 4, Hearts of Iron 4, and Superpower 2. RE members have also been known to queue up for Counter-Strike, Tabletop Simulator, and A***g *s. The rules state that people must stick to agreed-upon rulesets, which are often created to make the game more enjoyable by restricting certain strategies.

List of Games

This is a more or less comprehensive list of games that ReEra plays. Note that some games are played a lot more than others, and a few of these games are obscure titles that we've played once or twice or not available anymore. Generally if you want to know what we're playing on a day to day basis, look into map games, Gmod and Minecraft. If you see that a game we've played isn't on this list, please add it!

Sandbox games, especially multiplayer ones, are a common way for Reconstruction Era community members to express themselves and interact with one another. Many people found this server through Gmod and Civ, so it makes sense that they would be popular in our community. RE hosts a couple sandbox games, including DarkRP and the RE SMP series of Minecraft servers. It can also be noted that the community will often play certain strategy titles like Stronghold as city builders.

  • Garry's Mod
  • Minecraft
  • Simcity 4
  • Tabletop Simulator

Strategy games are the bread and butter of Reconstruction Era. Game sessions are typically planned and discussed on the #strategy_games discord channel, and can be either announced and organized far in advance or played right off the cuff. These games include Paradox Titles, RTS games, and obscure older games. Some of these games are played way more often than others (cough cough making history).

  • Civilization 5 and 6
  • Company of Heroes
  • Crusader Kings 2
  • Hearts of Iron 4
  • Iron Harvest
  • Line War
  • Making History The Calm and the Storm

Reconstruction Era plays a lot of source engine games, from semi-obscure old Valve shooters to extremely popular Steam games. There a few wildcard games as well, typically military combat simulators like ARMA or War Thunder. Often if we're chilling in Teamspeak someone will have the idea to queue up for one game or another.

  • ARMA 3
  • BattleBit
  • Counter Strike: Source
  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive 2: Electric Boogaloo
  • Cruelty Squad
  • Day of Defeat: Source

  • Halo: MCC (typically Reach)
  • Natural Selection 2
  • No More Room in Hell

Role-playing games and MOBAs aren't that big on Reconstruction Era. There was a time when Antea played Guild Wars 2 with Topaz, but that was on the Gensokyo discord. RE community members occasionally play and discuss singleplayer RPGs like Disco Elysium. Grave plays League of Legends, but uses it as a 'nothing game' and hasn't really attempted to get anyone else involved. There's been a couple times Fireball got some friends for Stardew Valley, but now I'm scraping the barrel.
